One of our creative media mentors is 2009 alumnus Michael Henry at Quandary Productions who’ll be at ‘Meet the Graduates’ network event this Wednesday to share advice about indie filmmaking and opportunities. Timely because he’s just completed the final cut on his latest film ‘Time and Place‘ (2014). There will be a free public screening on 1st November in Lincoln (UK) and the film will be released with ‘Pay-What-You-Want’ On Demand. The production team said ‘it’s the best thing we’ve ever made’. Mike said he’s excited in his latest posting:
Finally, the time has come! After months of hard work ‘TIME AND PLACE’ is finalised, exported, and sent off for DVD batch production. We premiere the film in one week, crowdfunders can expect their DVDs a day or two earlier next week, and we’re very excited about the ‘Pay-What-You-Want’ release on November 1st – same date as the free screening at The Collection in Lincoln. ‘TIME AND PLACE‘ took a good nine months to write, three to shoot, seven months of editing and will no doubt be months before I consider it entirely over, once all the promotion is done and festival fates are sealed. We’re trying something a little different this time – audience members will have the choice of how much they pay to see the film. So what’s different about our On Demand release?
All money that comes to us, that we work really hard for year-round, gets put back in to our next projects, and to be honest, we don’t see why art (or the ‘success’) should be judged on how much money is made after a project. As far as we’re concerned, as many people as we can reach the better. By lowering the cost and making the film more readily available to all, anyone aware of the project and with access to the internet will be able to see it. We’ll also be encouraging all audience members who love the film to spread the word, to get more people to see it and make them a part of helping people access the film. We’re also keen to do this as we’re confident of the quality of the film. Those who see the film On Demand, will most likely want a physical copy (with some remarkable artwork by Jonny Gillard), further adding to future project budgets, meaning we can continue to make further work.
We are always looking to leery new things with projects and distribution models, and even if the release fails, we can then report on why it did and inform others of why, or how it could be improved in the future. One of our main continuous goals is to supply free support to other practitioners, and we hope that not only will this release mean we reach a larger audience, but also be helpful for others considering new ways to release their projects We are a very generous bunch – helping fellow artists year-round, giving 10% of annual profits to charity, and never charging more than we need to when releasing our films to the world. So, for the pay-what-you-want release of ‘TIME AND PLACE‘ you have the option of a minimum £1 purchase, with unlimited access to the film online, but also if you wish to support us further you can pay more at point-of-purchase, or even once you’ve seen the film, as we will keep the donation button to hand.
SYNOPSIS: When scientists reveal the universe has stopped expanding, and will soon begin to contract, time collapses for one man. Things lose their meaning, and moral boundaries seem absurd. ‘TIME AND PLACE‘ is an epic in which one man has to come to terms with the consequences of his actions, knowing that some day all that surrounds him will cease to exist.
Mike is passionate about connecting with as many people as possible, with current projects helping to support future productions for example web series creation HAPPY(?), and the next feature film LIFELESS is being drafted.
