Our 2011 graduate Christopher Bingham, known as Bing, is a YouTube vlogger and comedian who was commissioned by New College of the Humanities (NCH) to produce an alternative view about University lectures. He said: As anyone who’s been working with YouTube for a while knows, operating on the channel prolifically involves getting a lot of offers from brands, but in this case I was able to really get behind the product. I’m very passionate about learning, not just through higher education, but throughout every stage of life. I had a lot of fun working with NCH on producing a script that I know my audience will enjoy, but also that will help them to think about the merits of higher education.
London-based NCH said it is “the first UK higher education institution to engage prospective students via a partnership with a YouTube vlogger. Filmed at NCH and featuring real NCH students in the audience, the #ProfOff video’s supporting cast is full of familiar faces from the world of YouTube, including comedians Khyan Mansley, Brian Firenzi, and fashion and beauty vlogger Mandy Hynes. Bing has also produced a second, documentary style video hosted on his other channel, Bing Radio. The video explores what NCH offers students, using clips from lectures, interviews with current students and Bing’s own thoughts and commentary. He has also been invited to speak to NCH students on his journey to YouTube success.”
Bing’s YouTube channel has over 150,000 subscribers. NCH founder & Master of the College, Professor A.C. Grayling, said: “Stars like Bing have access to an audience that is simply unavailable through traditional mediums. Having met Bing and encountered his enthusiasm for the project first-hand, I knew he was the perfect candidate to bring what NCH offers to life on YouTube for that audience. We greatly enjoyed having him here.” NCH highlighted: Applications are now open for 2015, at www.NCHum.org, and can be made now in addition to any application through UCAS.
Bing’s been busy with the release of his debut full-length album ‘Progress’. More here on this collaborative project with Elliott Morris, Daniel Dobbs and other artists.
