Mental Health Awareness Week | 8-14 May 2017

MentalHealthAwarenessWeek-blogIt is Mental Health Awareness Week (8th-14th May 2017). Two out of three adults will face mental health problems in their life, from a panic attack to depression, with “younger generations more impacted” according to the Mental Health Foundation. For staff the University of Lincoln Wellbeing saidCome and join our free events taking place throughout Mental Health Awareness Week 2017 promoting Surviving or Thriving?  Learning techniques and methods to deal with stress and anxiety can help to relieve the symptoms. During this week you will have the opportunity to discover more about mental health; find out what you can do to build mental resilience; explore how to reduce stress; and experience how laughter yoga can improve your wellbeing. The staff programme of events:

MentalHealthAwarenessWeek-Wellbeing-Poster-v3.0Information Stands | Monday 8th and Wednesday 10th May from 10.00am to 2.00pm. There will be information stands in the Minerva Atrium providing useful information on mental health as well as leaflets about different services, self-help materials and self-referral.

Heads Together | Monday 8th and Wednesday 10th May from 10.00am to 2.00pm. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry are spearheading the Heads Together campaign to end stigma around mental health. Heads Together aims to change the national conversation on mental health and wellbeing, and is a partnership with inspiring charities with decades of experience in tackling stigma, raising awareness, and providing vital help for people with mental health challenges.  For more information on Heads Together please see https://www.headstogether.org.uk/about-heads-together/

Laughter Yoga | Monday 8th May from 1.15pm to 1.45pm. Join in with ‘Let’s Laugh’, 15 minutes of laughter yoga at The Platform in the Engine Shed. It’s a great way to combat stress whilst having fun.

Walk and Talk | Tuesday 9th May from 12.10pm to 12.55pm. Take some time out and get active at our Walk & Talk lunch time activity. Enjoy a leisurely lunchtime walk whilst having a chat and connect with others. Meet us outside The Swan.

Meditation | Thursday 11th May from 12.00noon to 12.45pm. There will be a guided meditation session in SLB2005 (Stephen Langton Building) on Thursday. Come along and take a few moments for yourself.
