Our new visiting professor Trevor Dann was on campus yesterday at the School of Media to give his inaugural lecture and also to formally open the Lincoln Sound Theatre.

The BAFTA-winning radio executive, who was responsible for bringing Chris Evans to Radio 1 and overhauling its music policy in the 1990s, checked out the technology and asked for the title music of his landmark BBC Radio 2 series “Sounds of the Twentieth Century” to be played in it.
Dann said he was impressed by the facilities on offer to students learning how to make sound for film and TV, and had the chance to add the sound of footsteps to a film scene after declaring the sound theatre open.
“The Lincoln Sound Theatre is the most brilliant facility for students and as good as anything you’ll find in Soho,” said Dann.
“Back in the day you just couldn’t get anywhere close to studying television and radio and multimedia and sound production and all those things. So when you got your degree and you went off to work in the media you had to be trained and you had to work experience.
“Now because of courses like this and because of resources like this you can genuinely go and get a job when you already know what you’re doing and that’s a fantastic thing for students.”
