From Sarah Barrow:

More and more of our students are signing up for the Lincoln Award  – a great scheme to help them think about all those extra-curricular things which could be of use when looking for a career and/or further study. If you are interested, just contact Jess Shields – jshields@lincoln.ac.uk. Details of the scheme can be found here.

Lecturer Antonella Palmieri is giving a presentation on 4 March at Cambridge Arts Picturehouse before a screening of The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek (Preston Sturges, 1944).

The sceening is part of a special Wellcome Trust-funded season of films titled ‘Reproduction on Film’ curated by the Dept of History and Philosophy of Science at University of Cambridge.

LSM students are also getting involved in BBC workshops and events, notified to us as a result of the BBC Education Partnership link. Ben Atkinson, Hannah Webster-Sudborough and Aleysha Minns went to Salford yesterday for a workshop linked to the BBC Learning Zone, from which they have the chance to make a film with £1k funding. Nicole Afford and others went to the BBC Sports Personality workshop in November and Nicole was invited back to the actual event.

The Lincolnshire BFI Film Academy, delivered by us with CfBT Education Services after a successful funding bid, is now into its third week. This is a 9 week series of Saturday workshops for 18 young people from around Lincolnshire who also have the chance to apply for the National Talent Campus run by the NFTS. Thanks to everyone who has helped me and Brian with this so far, especially Marcella who is advising on scripts, and to all those who may be called upon for help before the end! This is an amazing project to be part of, will probably be repeated next year (more time to plan!) and may well lead to more projects of this kind.

Last but not least, we’ve bought/sponsored a seat at the Ritz Cinema in Lincoln. The first events there begin on 22 February, with a screening of ‘San Francisco’ which was the first film shown there in 1937!
