Today is the official launch of the ‘Save Television Centre Studios’ campaign. It aims to halt demolishing five of the UK’s working studios. Chris Hainstock, LSM’s Senior Lecturer, has been party to the press launch:
The campaign has been set up by a group of TV industry veterans – directors, producers, sound engineers, technicians, crew and many others from all walks of television production – who all feel passionately about the demolition of not only some of the best working TV studios in the country, but the destruction of such an iconic and magical place to work. Stars including Esther Rantzen, David Jason, Richard Wilson, Al Murray, Charlie Brooker and Michael Parkinson are backing the campaign.
The aim is to convince the BBC and Stanhope Plc to reconsider demolishing five of the UK’s best working TV studios on the site of BBC Television Centre. This is not a rose tinted looking back viewpoint, but rather it recognises that there is now in the UK a major shortage of purpose built TV studios. You can join the campaign by signing the petition.
