1215.today is a major LSFM/Arts Council project that commemorates 800 years of the Magna Carta with an online platform that gives young people (aged 14-24) a space to debate and create. Organisers said: We are inviting a filmmaker, animator or artist / maker / practitioner working with moving image to work with us in the development of a new artistic digital commission. Artists do not need to have previous experience in working online as they will be supported through the process by expert creative technologists. Artists will need to be open to new ways of working and welcome critical conversation and collaboration, particularly with young people. By looking, listening and talking about societal and individual rights explored across the breadth of art forms, we aim to agitate and engage young people to create work about big issues. Here are the 1215Today Film Commission application details. Deadline is 8th May 2016. Read more on the 1215.today webpage about the commissioning process, £10k fee offered to the artist and the terms.

At this stage we are looking for a radical, challenging proposition that relates to issues prompted by Magna Carta and its legacy in today’s society: issues such as (but not limited to) power, taxation, land rights and trial by jury. The selected artist’s proposition will be explored, researched and debated through an Innovation Lab in Lincoln (hosted by co_LAB) on 11th June, the starting point for the commission. We want to work with an artist who will be excited and embrace this experimental, open, collaborative process without any preconceived idea of the outcome.

Whether you are an artist who has never previously produced artwork for an online platform or one familiar with the medium, this opportunity will extend your practice and offer you the support of inventive and creative technologists. Following the Lincoln Innovation Lab the artist will have three months to create a unique online work that will be premiered on the 1215.today site during 2016/17. Application detailsDeadline 8.5.2016
