Vicki Wilson, class of 2008

“It’s who you know, not what you know” well, that’s true to a degree. It definitely helps getting your foot in the door if you know someone in the industry, but once you’re in you’ve got to prove your worthy of staying.

I was lucky enough to get onto Russell Crowe’s Robin Hood in 2009, sitting out in the middle of the woods come rain or shine, stopping passers by from getting into the back of shot and making numerous cups of tea for camera crew on set.

But being able to stand next to Ridley Scott whilst he discusses with the DOP what their next shot will be, was something I will never forget. Continue reading

Meet the LSM Graduates

Meet the Graduates (MtG 2013), our networking event, was a good get together for students (and staff) to meet fifteen LSM’s alumni.  2012 graduate Katie Martin captured some of our alumni on the day and asked what they are doing?

Bird’s eye view: Graduate Question Time

The Graduate Question Time was not rose tinted views, but honest realistic perspectives. Graduates talked frankly about their experiences in looking for work, pursuing their passions and reflecting on when they were students. They even agreed that tutors are humans with experience and lots to offer!  Trending was to use social media platforms, get business cards and set up your own blog now (students) to showcase your work. Other talking points … Continue reading

Simon Dunn starts on new Feature Film at Leavesden Studios

“I got approached to be represented by a professional Film/TV agency based at Shepperton Studios. They wanted to represent me as a Camera Trainee. I’m absolutely over the moon as things finally are starting to move forwards and I finally get to work on my first feature!
Mental!”

Simon starts next Tuesday as part of the underwater department on the new feature film, and we wish him all the best.

LSM graduates nominated for RTS 2012 awards

The School of Media is delighted to announce that 2 films from last year’s 3rd year projects have been successful in receiving shortlist nominations from the RTS (Royal Television Society) for their Midlands Awards ceremony which will take place later this year.

We would like to congratulate Adam Clark and Dominic White and their production teams on this notable success & the inspiration that it provides for all our students. The nominations are in the Fiction and Entertainment categories and are listed below along with the RTS judging panel comments.

Fiction: “Breakpoint” – Dominic White and team. The judges thought that this was a very strong drama. Well shot, excellent locations which added to the dramatic effect. Good direction and production and believable acting.

Entertainment: “Porcelain” – Adam Clark The judges felt that this was particularly well written and was witty and engaging. It was entertaining, clever and the character of the mug was very well developed. A strong entry.

From Michael Henry: Just to let you know I’ve now begun my unique crowdfunding campaign for our fourth feature film ‘NARCISSIST’. What sets us apart from everyone else trying to raise funds for their indie film is we’re running the campaign through www.michaelhenryfilm.com instead, in order to show you don’t actually need crowdfunding sites to run a successful campaign.

Daryl Boyden, class of 2011

I am still here at Interflora and work has been busy since I took my promotion for the role of Video Producer (from assistant) back in January. Focusing the brand video slightly more on editorial content (e.g. short documentaries about British grown flowers, wedding competitions and flower school) to managing, shooting, capturing the entire video element for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2012 – Probably the most stressful but extremely fun challenge I’ve had so far.
