Darren Scales learns about scoring his film

Darren Scales has been working on his sci-fi epic “The Drift” since August 2011, and the movie is now in post production, scheduled for a Christmas 2013 release. He’s recently been working on the original musical score. As well as producing this low budget movie, Darren (who describes himself as the executive bully,) has regularly updated his production video diary “Driftcasts”. Here’s the latest episode, in which Darren meets with James the Score, composer for THE DRIFT, and asks him what it takes to write a score:

Make a trailer for the Giffgaff challenge

Here’s a fantastic film-related challenge – a chance to show off your film making skills and win some great entertainment prizes. The challenge is called ‘Tailor a Trailer’ and we’re looking for people to create a trailer for an imaginary film, related to mobile phones in some way. Reef TV are looking for an Edit Assistant in London. The role will include copying tapeless media to the digitise stations and converting to low res material for use in offline edit, conforms from offline to online for HD edits and general maintenance of the edit suites.You will be responsible for unlock/lockup of the office and work will be based on a shift pattern with 2 other assistants. Must be available for immediate interview. Closing date 11th August 2013. Salary according to age and experience (adheres to UK minimum wage regulations).

Degree show programme now on line

The School of Media Degree Show 2013 starts at midday on Wednesday 5th June and ends midday on Friday 7th June. The show is open to the public, free of charge, so why not drop in to the school by the pool for a real media treat? You can pick up a programme at the degree show reception desk in the Atrium from 5th June, or to help you plan ahead, Ben Atkinson has produced a web version of the Show programme.

LSM student Ami Petch has joined Electric Egg as a full-time production and post-production intern after completing her Media Production BA(hons) studies. Ami joins founding directors Neil Baker and Steven Hatton as Electric Egg’s first full-time employee. LSM New Media Social Enterprise

The Lincoln School of Media is setting up a New Media Social Enterprise to enable LSM students to work collaboratively with local businesses, organisations, charities, schools and community groups to provide them with media support and you with networking opportunities, creative commissions and the chance to develop your business skills. This Social Enterprise is being co-ordinated by LSM graduate of MA Digital Imaging and Photography Hazel Donnelly. Hazel will oversee logistical, financial, H&S, ethical and IP issues. THE GEMINI PROJECT is the first project for our Social Enterprise and we need two fantastic students to get on board really soon.
