LUMAS | Lincoln School of Film & Media’s Showcase

Robin Sheppard, TV Drama Director | Film & TV Talk

Interested in TV drama, directing, scriptwriting or authorship? Then don’t miss a talk and Q&A session with television director Robin Sheppard.  The session will be based on her own experiences of working with writers in British TV Dramas from Jack Rosenthal (Lucky Jim, 2003) to Sally Wainwright (At Home With The Braithwaites, 2003). She said:

Robin-Sheppard_TVDramaTalk_25.02.15I will talk about the director’s relationship with the writer – the creative dialogue at the heart of British TV. Showing clips from my work to illustrate how this dialogue is realised on screen.

Film Production Summer School | 19th July to 1st August 2015

LSFM-FilmProductionSummerSchool_2015 The Lincoln School of Film & Media 2-week Summer School 2015 concentrates on the key aspects of film production, including scriptwriting, cinematography, producing, directing, sound and post production. If you always wanted to know how the professionals do it then now is your chance. Not only will you have access to our state-of-the-art facilities, field trips around the UK, film making workshops and seminars delivered by industry guest speakers, you will also be actively involved in the production of at least one short film, mentored by experts from all areas of film production. Pop-up Exhibition 21 & 22 Feb | By Clementine Monro

Clem-MonroSenior Lecturer at Lincoln School of Film & Media Clementine Monro is having a Pop-up installation/ exhibition of her current work at Hackthorn Village Hall in Lincoln. Clem said:  It’s a POP UP exhibition, so only on for a very short time. This is keeping in tune with the title of the exhibition called Perpetual Transitions: A Communication Between Photography and Absence Within the Spatial Experience of the Ruin, which is the culmination of my MA by Practice-Based Research in Art. Photography, ruins and spatial experience are all passions of mine.  The ruin carries the notion of constant change – perpetual transitions. Here today and gone tomorrow! The exhibition opening is on Saturday 21st February at 6:30pm. Drinks and food will be available.  On Sunday 22nd the exhibit will run from 10am until 2pm.  Hope you can make it! Continue reading →

Latin American Cinema Symposium | 21 Feb at EMMTEC, Lincoln (UK)

Head for the EMMTEC Building for the receptionMe, Myself, and Others: A Cinematic Approach to Latin American Encounters (Part 2) will be held at EMMTEC conference centre, Brayford Campus, University of Lincoln, Lincoln (UK) on 21st February 2015 between 10am & 7pm.  This day-long research event, sponsored by the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS), the University of Leicester and the University of Lincoln, brings together scholars who have been working on different projects on the theme of Otherness and Encounters in Latin American Cinema, with practitioners working within and outside the film industry. The day, a follow-up to a similar event held in Leicester in October 2014, will include panel presentations, a film viewing and a video-installation.

Registration fee: £15 (full day, includes all refreshments)  | Register now Screening only (4-6pm) is FREE entry and includes introduction and discussion with the director.

Call for Submissions | Top class media work for LUMAS event

Invitation to our creatives from Sarah Barrow, Head of Lincoln School of Film & Media, about the new event LUMAS – Lincoln University Media Arts Showcase. 2013 Grad Jack Howard will be presenting this new event to celebrate success! LUMAS will be on 24th February and is open to our alumni, students and staff.

LUMAS_logoPlease send submissions for this year’s inaugural LUMAS event. We are looking for TOP CLASS MEDIA WORK in any format (audio | photo | short film | digital | radio | animation | script | design) to showcase and to be considered for an award. The deadline’s Monday 9th February at MIDNIGHT!

Holocaust Survivor Story | 25 Feb Talk at University of Lincoln

27th January is Holocaust Memorial Day. Our 3rd year Film and TV student Kate Marrison is a regional ambassador at the Holocaust Educational Trust. She has arranged for a survivor to talk about his experiences. Kate posted: This year is of even greater significance as it marks 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz Birkenau (said to be ‘the largest Nazi death camp’). The Holocaust may be at risk of moving from living history into just history and so it is up to future generations, now more than ever, to keep the legacy and the memory of the survivors alive – not just on this Memorial Day but throughout the entire year. I first got involved with the Trust in 2012 when I took part in the lessons from Auschwitz project. From then on I applied to be a regional ambassador for the East Midlands, which is effectively a three year course in which I would volunteer to write blogs, organise events, attend conferences, workshops and do what I could to promote Holocaust education.  

Holocaust-survivor_Harry-BibringFor my first event I have invited survivor Harry Bibring to come and share his testimony. All are welcome on the 25th of February in the Cargill Lecture Theatre at 2.30pm. This free talk will last around 90-minutes, including time for questions. Seats will be limited, so please arrive early to ensure your place. I feel it is both a privilege and a necessity that students and the public can hear Harry’s survivor story, at the university, and carry it with them into the future.  Continue reading →

21.01.15 Graduation Day | University of Lincoln Year of Liberty

On a wintry Wednesday there were plenty of warm-hearted wishes from Lincoln School of Film & Media, family and friends to today’s graduates. Congratulations from us all at the University of Lincoln to our latest alumni!  Be proud.

2014grads-unfocused_RWGraduation Day marked the start of the University of Lincoln’s Year of Liberty.  Vice Chancellor Professor Mary Stuart said: This year is an important landmark for the University, the Cathedral, the county and the city of Lincoln, as we mark the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta – the cornerstone of our democracy. In commemoration, the University is making 2015 its Year of Liberty, and I can’t think of a better way to begin than celebrating the success of our graduates.

Meet the Graduates | Video on job interviews

Meet_the_Graduates_150wMeet the Graduates is just one of Lincoln School of Film & Media‘s popular networking events between our creative alumni and students.  The most recent symposium was on-campus, last October, with a packed audience at the Graduate Question Time. On the panel were alumni from 2003 to 2014: Video Director Lewis Cater, Digital Strategist Jo Graham (doing a KTP at Mortons Media Group), Screenwriter Tony Kelly, 4Crew Production Co-ordinator Aleysha Minns, freelance sound operator / technician Tom Ward and Wallbreaker Productions Producer Ashley Wilks.

The video is on their experiences about going for job interviews in the creative industries and it was captured by LSFM student crew via New Media Lincs. Thanks to 2nd year Audio Production undergraduate Mihail Sustov and 3rd year Media Production students Alex Faulkner & Rory McCarney. This piece (and the vox pop, see previous post) was produced by Rory.
