I just wanted to report back on LSM’s LincDog freshers’ event, which was all about getting the students to meet each other and work out ways to collaborate creatively with one another.

Just under 300 students across all 3 programmes took part in our day long event, creating 60 second films using their mobile phones, shooting across the city. A huge thanks to all involved. Continue reading

Rachel Hagreen on freelance jobs

Hello.  Here’s another post from me – a Lincoln School of Media Student.

Rachel Hagreen's freelancing projectsI became a freelancer completely by accident and it was never something I considered as part of plan. I had a BBQ in summer 2012 and a girl who I was once friends with in high school turned up and got talking to me asking the standard generic question ‘so, how’s uni?’… I got chatting about it and she started telling me about the business she and her mum have, Happiness Millionaire, she mentioned that they were looking to create some short videos to ultimately make into a mobile app and asked if I fancied doing it? Since it was to be the first time I’d independently produced any form of film related work I said I’d happily do it free of charge as I’d use it as an opportunity to learn some new skills. Student Feature Film ‘What Goes Up’ in the making

Matthew Gambell and Production Team__What Goes Up filmThis summer LSM students, like Director Matthew Gambell and the dedicated production team from writers to producers, have been busy fundraising, scripting and shooting an independent feature film called ‘What Goes Up’.  It’s a “rom-com with a sci-fi twist”, which is currently in post-production.

Matt said: We’re hoping to get the film finished by January so that we can start circulating the festivals before releasing it later in the year, we’re also hoping to have a few screenings within Lincoln before release. Continue reading

Sheffield Doc/Fest from volunteer to internship

Sheffield doc-fest logo_v2My technique lately seems to be to apply for jobs no matter how unqualified I think I might be and if I’m successful, worry about it the night before I start work. I hate myself for this technique sometimes but it always pays off in the end!  I first came across Sheffield Doc/Fest through a friend and as soon as I read into the festival, I knew I wanted to be involved.  I’m Rachel Hagreen a second year student at the Lincoln School of Media.  I’ve always either had my head in fiction as part of the course or freelancing to earn a bit of brass, so I figured I should open the door to documentary production too.

Rachel Hagreen’s Summer Internship

Well done to Rachel Hagreen, LSM’s second year student, who has a three-month summer internship with the Sheffield Doc/Fest organisers. The international film festival is renowned for bringing together media professionals and celebrates the art and craft of documentary making.

Rachel HagreenRachel said “my first intern shift is today, on the hottest day of the year.  Everyone is lovely here and very laid back.  I’ve been responding to lots of emails, making tea and editing the doc/fest website so far!”  She’s been thinking of starting a blog, but in the meantime she’ll post something here soon.  Rachel’s also been working on producing some shorts about Meet the Graduates 2013 and I caught her in action at the School of Media’s networking event.

Aleysha Minns at ITV’s This Morning

I recently underwent some work experience at ITV’s ‘This Morning’. Being an undergraduate student with afternoon lectures, I watched the show everyday and was a huge fan.The process of getting this work experience started in May/June 2012 when I applied for the ITV Talent Pool.

It is a pool of people that, if accepted through an application process followed by a group workshop, are offered work experience, placements and entry-level jobs across ITV around the country. Continue reading

Aleysha Minns – student film producer

Being a producer for a low budget student film is extremely hard work, especially if you are part of a large group with such big aspirations for our final project at university. Continue reading

From Sarah Barrow: Some fantastic feedback on the degree show from two of our external visitors who’ve already taken the time to send some kind words:

Sarah Grundy, Historic Environment Officer, Lincolnshire County Council wrote “I’ve just come back from visiting the Degree Show, where I was very kindly given a tour by Gemma. Thanks very much indeed for inviting me along, it was fantastic to see all the work your students have done, I was most impressed. Continue reading
