Creative space in Lincoln to enhance the community spirit

Invitation from Lynne Smith at the Grimsby charity Foresight.

Time-banking_sept2013St Swithin’s Church is a fantastic exhibition space and we’re inviting artists, photographers, designers, performers and filmmakers to showcase their talents at St Swithin’s and encourage long-term community use of the church.

With a volunteer from the Diocese of Lincoln we are working with St Swithin’s Church to bring it to the forefront of community life. Our first event is to launch ‘Timebanking’ at an event over the Christmas Market weekend (in Lincoln).

The next meeting to discuss the project, it’ll be about an hour, is at St Swithin’s Church on Thursday 26th September at 11.30 am. The east end of the church is on Broadgate and it’s by the central library at 1 St Swithin’s Square in Lincoln. You are very welcome to attend or if you would like to contact me with any expressions of interest I can take them to the meeting on your behalf. I look forward to hearing from you. My email: lynne.smith@foresight-nelincs.co.uk

Sheffield Doc/Fest from volunteer to internship

Sheffield doc-fest logo_v2My technique lately seems to be to apply for jobs no matter how unqualified I think I might be and if I’m successful, worry about it the night before I start work. I hate myself for this technique sometimes but it always pays off in the end!  I first came across Sheffield Doc/Fest through a friend and as soon as I read into the festival, I knew I wanted to be involved.  I’m Rachel Hagreen a second year student at the Lincoln School of Media.  I’ve always either had my head in fiction as part of the course or freelancing to earn a bit of brass, so I figured I should open the door to documentary production too.

Call from University of Lincoln Library …

… for the very first Library Student Advisers.

Library copy

Here’s an invitation from Dan Derricott.  The Library wants to hear student opinion on how it should develop and is looking for a group of 20 committed and knowledgeable students to form its Student Advisory Panel which will meet twice between now and the end of the year – with food & drink provided. There will also be opportunities to get involved in specific projects throughout the year if you have the time, all of which will help The Library to improve and will look great on your CV, and some which may come with a thank you gift for your time!   If you are interested in getting involved all you need to do is email with answers to the following two questions:

  1. What one thing would you change about The Library, why and how? (Max 200 words)
  2. What one thing is The Library great at and how should it build on that? (Max 200 words)

We are looking for creative minds, which can help us develop solutions that students will like, so be bold in your answers and push some boundaries!  Please send your answers in an email to dderricott@lincoln.ac.uk by noon on Monday the 18th February 2013.

Thanks.

Volunteering Opportunity

Are you interested in volunteering overseas, and telling a story about it? Would you like to immerse yourself in another culture, contribute to international development, and make media about the experience?

International Citizen Service (ICS) is the UK’s leading global volunteering programme for people aged 18-25, bringing together young people from different countries to fight poverty. Over the next three years ICS will be sending 7,000 young people from the UK to over 28 of the world’s poorest countries to work alongside national volunteers for 10-12 weeks.

If you’re a recent graduate from a journalism or media course, and 25 or under, then you could apply for one of the upcoming placements, which are provisionally: January – March 2013 and  April – June 2013.
