From, Gemma Pass, Chair of the LSM Degree Show Committee 2013
Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th June
This year’s degree show is not just a showcase of the work that we have produced but also a chance to share this work with potential employers. We have structured the show over a three day period with the first being dedicated to sharing our experience with young people from across Lincoln. Continue reading →
I am a graduate filmmaker who has recently returned home to Lincoln. Having had some previous success with some of my short films (BFI awarded, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival) and recently completing the FilmWorks development and networking scheme through the BFI and Creative England has enabled me to move forward into directing my first feature project. Bing is a graduate from a few years ago and a very successful YouTuber. He came to give a talk for level 2 digital media today and Martyn Thayne covered the session on Twitter.
Level 3 student Katie Harris responded to a call for applicants to work as runners on Dragon’s Den, but wound up working last summer on BBC2 programme The Planners, due to be aired on Thursday 31st January at 8pm (Northern Ireland only!) If you can, watch out for her runner credit.
You may be able to see the programme on i-player after the broadcast; check on the BBC Northern Ireland web page
Katie also co-ordinates the New Wave show on Siren every Tuesday 4-5pm.
Recent LSM graduates, Warren Hayward, James Martin, Gideon Marriott and Leanne Bacon had some valuable work experience contributing to the post production of ‘The Forty’, a film made by Lecturer Dan Frodsham. ‘The Forty’ had a very successful World Monuments Fund screening at the Empire State Building in New York yesterday (11 Dec). Continue reading →
I did wonder why LSM graduate Jordan Livermore left his first job in 3D film, to launch himself as a runner. I‘m beginning to understand now, having gone along to “Meet the Freelancers”, an event suggested and organised by Jordan, hosted by the LSM.
Jordan’s idea was to pass on the wisdom and experiences of fellow freelancers Nick Cramp, James Gurden, Jude Winstanley and Andy Devonshire, as well as to give his own take on the business. Together they did just that. Jordan started with this:
“…apply for absolutely every realistic entry level opportunity that there is out there, because you never know who you will meet and where it will lead to, even if it is as little as making the director a cup of coffee and sweeping the floor.”
Since leaving Uni I have spent time gaining short term experience at different companies around the UK. I worked with companies local to the uni such asBlueprint Films and Darren Scales’ Backyard Productions, both of which were brilliant opportunities and helped me to learn a great deal about the industry.
