Katie Martin, Class of 2012

Katie MartinHi! I’m Katie, a Media Production graduate. I’m currently working as a Web and Multimedia Intern for the University’s Marketing department…which is definitely not the route I imagined my career taking! Throughout my degree I only ever wanted to go into film, but after finishing my course in May 2012 I was faced with unemployment (or staying in my part-time retail job) along with many other graduates.

I applied for various roles and internships across the country and found my current internship on the University’s job siteIt wasn’t exactly the field I wanted to go into, but it did sound interesting and challenging. Continue reading

David Clancy’s update

Dave Clancy_April2013This is my first blog post for a while – and in that time a lot has happened! I’ll quickly run through my life since Uni via a few links to previous blog posts, then bring you up to date with where I am currently, followed by a few hints & tips for current students.

For example, attend events like Meet the Graduates – I wish they’d had this back in my day! It’s a good chance to compare and contrast people who were in your shoes quite recently and figure out the direction you want to take.  I graduated from Media Production in 2007.  I was fortunate enough to immediately find work with Interflora British Unit as their in-house Video Producer.   Continue reading

Ellen Jackson Class of 2011

EJ-with-camera-199x300I graduated in Media Production and almost immediately walked into an internship with a leading London-based production company. I must have made an impression because that resulted in being commissioned to do freelance backstage footage editing for The X-Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and The Apprentice. Much of this video production work was delivered in London.  Since then I’ve put my knowledge and experience into providing a value for money videography service to businesses and private individuals alike – with my work now ranging from weddings through to single camera corporate videos.

‘Midlands on Film’ by LSM and MACE

Midlands on Film DVD Collection It has been a fantastic experience to be part of a collaborative project between the LSM and MACE (Media Archive for Central England) because I could do what I love best and produce creative content. My industry passion is producing programmes on whatever platform, and this project was to promote the archives held at MACE into a DVD series. There are nine DVDs and each is based on a city in the Midlands.  As part of the LSM teaching team, I had multicultural Leicester which can be traced back almost 2,000 years – thankfully the archives only dated back to the 1920s!
