Films spanning 150 years of Lincolnshire’s engineering history have been preserved for posterity. The Ruston Hornsby (Siemens) Archive contains nationally significant material revealing the central role played by Lincolnshire companies in England’s industrial heyday during the 19th and 20th centuries. Around 150 cine film reels, mainly 16mm and 35mm film, including footage showing the development of the caterpillar tracks used on the world’s first battlefield tanks during World War I, have been moved to the Media Archive for Central England (MACE) based at the University of Lincoln. International recognition for Lincoln filmmaker
A leading filmmaker from the University of Lincoln has been shortlisted for a prestigious international award in recognition of his pioneering work to document the on-screen heritage of the Midlands. Andy McKay, Principal Lecturer in Media Production at the Lincoln School of Media, researched and produced Nottingham on Film 1920 -1980 as part of the Midlands on Film series. The DVD has now been named as a finalist in the category for ‘Best Use of Footage in a Home Entertainment Release’ at the FOCAL International Awards 2013. Continue reading
‘Midlands on Film’ by LSM and MACE
It has been a fantastic experience to be part of a collaborative project between the LSM and MACE (Media Archive for Central England) because I could do what I love best and produce creative content. My industry passion is producing programmes on whatever platform, and this project was to promote the archives held at MACE into a DVD series. There are nine DVDs and each is based on a city in the Midlands. As part of the LSM teaching team, I had multicultural Leicester which can be traced back almost 2,000 years – thankfully the archives only dated back to the 1920s! Continue reading

The Media Archive for Central England is in the throes of relocating to the MHT building on Brayford Campus.
MACE Development Manager Emma Morley reports “We’ve had a very productive day moving crates, files, DVDs, books and boxes into our brand new facilities in the MHT Building of the University of Lincoln.”

“The Executive Board of the university yesterday gave approval for the Media Archive for Central England to relocate to the University campus from July 2011.
Traineeship opportunity
The curators of the Film London-supported Black London’s Film Heritage project invite applications from aspiring BAME-background film curators for a trainee position being offered as an integral part of this new screen heritage initiative.
