First Light is looking for either young filmmakers or teams of young people aged between 18 and 25 to take part in a 4 day residential course to help find funding for their films. You’ll get access to practical workshops, talks and screenings.
It has partnered with the Flatpack Festival and Creative Skillset to run a film financing course in March 2013. First Light said the course “taught by experienced filmmakers will provide all the tools needed to help get film projects off the ground.” Continue reading →
It has been a fantastic experience to be part of a collaborative project between the LSM and MACE (Media Archive for Central England) because I could do what I love best and produce creative content. My industry passion is producing programmes on whatever platform, and this project was to promote the archives held at MACE into a DVD series. There are nine DVDs and each is based on a city in the Midlands. As part of the LSM teaching team, I had multicultural Leicester which can be traced back almost 2,000 years – thankfully the archives only dated back to the 1920s! Continue reading →
I managed to squeeze in another TV job before the year was out! lol
It’s a Kids’ TV prog called ‘Which is Witch’ and I play the character ‘Ava’ who is a witch and older sister to one of the main characters. It was filmed in Belgium (which was great as I’ve never been) and its all done in 3D with SFX. It was a really good experience. The cast are English and the crew are French! lol so it was interesting everything having to be relayed in French and then translated (if need be) The cast were all fun to work with. I’ve attached a couple pictures of me in character, along with another member of the main cast (who was actually in the BBC Three hit comedy series ‘Some Girls’)
Filming was fast yet efficient, as they film two episodes a week and everyone is lovely, yet hardworking, which is EXACTLY what you need for projects like that. Again the feedback for my performance was really good, so who knows, where that new contact could lead. I’m not entirely sure when it airs, but I’ll definitely keep you posted. Continue reading →

“I have recently had a very crazy experience being an assistant editor (avid) on the official film of the London 2012 Olympic Games (I also had the opportunity to go and shoot some material too) It has meant working with hundreds of hours of footage and makes editing ‘Void’ my student film seem like a walk in the park! A very eye opening experience”
“A new research report released today by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) reveals that young people are needlessly being discouraged from pursuing a career in film, television or games – with talented young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds and women at particular risk of being lost to these industries. Careers in film, television and games are popular first choices amongst young people……… However, one in five (20%) of all respondents found accessing careers advice difficult or impossible, and ……. the majority (64%) felt the advice was too general and almost half (49%) felt the advisor did not know enough about the industry in question.” Continue reading →
Meet the Graduates (MtG 2013), our networking event, was a good get together for students (and staff) to meet fifteen LSM’s alumni. 2012 graduate Katie Martin captured some of our alumni on the day and asked what they are doing?
Bird’s eye view: Graduate Question Time
The Graduate Question Time was not rose tinted views, but honest realistic perspectives. Graduates talked frankly about their experiences in looking for work, pursuing their passions and reflecting on when they were students. They even agreed that tutors are humans with experience and lots to offer! Trending was to use social media platforms, get business cards and set up your own blog now (students) to showcase your work. Other talking points … Continue reading →
