From Catherine Hughes at the Graduate School: We will be hosting the 7th Annual Postgraduate Student Conference on 18th April 2013 at Riseholme Park Conference Centre in Lincoln.
Postgraduate refers to all PG students, including Masters Taught and Research as well as Professional Doctorates and PhDs. All staff including professional and support staff are welcome, as are undergraduate students. See here for conference details and to book your place.
The 23rd of January was the first graduation day of 2013 for the University of Lincoln. As part of the LSM’s alumni team, I find it‘s a great opportunity to capture the event. Although I have to admit that I have never attended the January ceremonies at Lincoln Cathedral, until now. Today I was fortunate to see graduation from a different perspective – as a postgraduate student. So, as I warm up now with a glass of mulled wine and raise it to all alumni, I thought I’d post a couple of photos taken by my nearest and dearest.

LSM Senior Lecturer Chris Hainstock has been accepted onto the Guild of British Film and Television Editors, and will appear in due course on their list of members.
Well done Chris – fantastic and well deserved recognition of your skills, experience and expertise.
I’m also delighted to announce that, against stiff competition from top class scholars from around the world, Rob Coley impressed a panel of 2 Pro-Vice Chancellors, 1 Dean of Research, 1 Faculty Director of Research and me … and was offered the post. He accepted!
Rob’s post represents a significant and very much appreciated sign of confidence in LSM generally, in our research agenda (aligning theory and practice), and in our imminent REF submission.

The Graduate Question Time was not rose tinted views, but honest realistic perspectives. Graduates talked frankly about their experiences in looking for work, pursuing their passions and reflecting on when they were students. They even agreed that tutors are humans with experience and lots to offer! Hello everyone! Well it has almost been a year since I left the United Kingdom to study at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After meeting Sarah Barrow who visited San Francisco for a conference and showing her around both the city and the Academy, it was suggested that I give an update blog…which I am happy to do of course!
Since my last blog back in September 2011, I have completed two semesters and seven courses. The classes have ranged from writing short scripts, filming short films, directing actors, editing film footage etc.
“Don’t turn anything down. Whatever the work is, take it, and be prepared to do things at short notice.”
After finishing my degree in May 2010 I went about applying for a few media jobs that I saw on the opportunities at Lincoln website. After a couple of interviews and rejections I decided making money was the most important thing for me to do. Continue reading

My journey from university to working life has not been easy, having spent 20 months living on sofas and busking to make money, however if you want to do something bad enough, then you’ve just got to do it.
I went to university with two aims, to be as creative as possible and meet loads of people on the same wavelength as me. At the time I had come from an art background with a small amount of experience in Video production. Throughout the first two years of the Media Production Bachelors Degree I began to develop as a creative thinker.
