From Sarah Barrow: The inaugural conference of the British Association of Film, TV and Screen Studies takes place here next week, Fri 19th to Sun 21st April. Professor Mary Stuart will open proceedings at 2pm on the Friday followed by an introduction from BAFTSS chair Prof Brian Winston. Guest of honour (receiving a lifetime achievement award) is confirmed as acclaimed feminist film theorist Laura Mulvey! Her keynote is on the Friday at 4.30pm, followed by a screening of “Riddles of the Sphynx”, followed by a reception to launch the Journal of Popular Television. As soon as I graduated in 2011 with a BA (Hons) in Media Production I applied for a Master in Historical Studies at the University of Lincoln. I have always been passionate about History and it is my dream job to produce Historical documentaries. By doing this course I have been able to develop my skills which will be important for creating documentaries and other historical products. Since graduating I have gained experience working with the BBC on their BBC 2 show Flog It! This has provided me with valuable experience and has presented possible networking opportunities for when I finish my Masters course.

Film Financing Course for Filmmakers

First Light is looking for either young filmmakers or teams of young people aged between 18 and 25 to take part in a 4 day residential course to help find funding for their films. You’ll get access to practical workshops, talks and screenings.
It has partnered with the Flatpack Festival and Creative Skillset to run a film financing course in March 2013. First Light said the course “taught by experienced filmmakers will provide all the tools needed to help get film projects off the ground.” Continue reading
