In September 2010 I graduated with a 2:1 in Media Production. In the midst of rising graduate unemployment, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to get a job in television. Little did I know that a year later I would achieve my first TV Credits as ‘Offline Editor’ for a new children’s TV series: Cartoonito Tales.

My journey from university to working life has not been easy, having spent 20 months living on sofas and busking to make money, however if you wantĀ to do something bad enough, then youāve just got to do it.
I went to university with two aims, to be as creative as possible and meet loads of people on the same wavelength as me. At the time I had come from an art background with a small amount of experience in Video production. Throughout the first two years of the Media Production Bachelors Degree I began to develop as a creative thinker.

Internships can be an extremely good place to start.
I am a producer creating promos, commercials, competitions and short form content for the kidsā channels Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Cartoonito.
Doug’s latest showreel:
I know people whoāve swept floors, blown up balloons and bought everyoneās lunch at some studios, for no pay and little respect. Honestly, some internships are nothing short of slave labour and unpaid internships should be made illegal.
How many people do you know who are being paid to do exactly what they studied at Uni? And who wants a repetitive, boring old 9 to 5 job anyway!?
My work experience did not just happen; I was very lucky but I worked really hard searching for it.
