Adam Luff updates from the USA

Hello everyone! Well it has almost been a year since I left the United Kingdom to study at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After meeting Sarah Barrow who visited San Francisco for a conference and showing her around both the city and the Academy, it was suggested that I give an update blog…which I am happy to do of course!

Since my last blog back in September 2011, I have completed two semesters and seven courses. The classes have ranged from writing short scripts, filming short films, directing actors, editing film footage etc.

Paul Rook, class of 2010

“Don’t turn anything down. Whatever the work is, take it, and be prepared to do things at short notice.”

After finishing my degree in May 2010 I went about applying for a few media jobs that I saw on the opportunities at Lincoln website. After a couple of interviews and rejections I decided making money was the most important thing for me to do. Continue reading

Becca Weaver, class of 2010

“You have to have a lot of determination. If this is the industry you want to be in, then don’t give up. It may take years, but if you’re passionate, it’ll show through.”

After handing in my final assignment in 2010, I only stayed at Lincoln for another month. I was tempted to stay longer of course and make use of the University’s equipment and try to delay the realisation that my student life was over, but I was pretty confident that I was going to get a job in London, or at least an internship quite quickly. How hard can that be, I thought. After an intense final year to complete a 50 minute television drama on a student budget, I thought I was prepared for anything. Abergale needs your help

Hi, my name is Abi Bremner, I graduated from the University of Lincoln in September 2011 with a first class honors degree in Media Production. I am currently living in Brisbane, Australia and wondered whether anyone from the School of Media has any contacts out here that they could put me in touch with.

I am currently looking for work experience and internships to develop my cv so that I can then begin applying for more senior roles and positions. Any feedback or advice would be greatly received as I really want to try and get sponsorship out here and in the long run apply for residency. Look forward to hearing from you, Abi Bremner

If you can help, please comment on this post, or contact Peter Dewrance, lismalumni@gmail.com.

Getting Started in the film business (by one who knows!)

From Luke Cairns

During a normal working week here at Butchers Hook Video, I’ve come to expect at least a dozen CV’s of young people interested in breaking into the film business in the UK.

Now it is widely known that getting a break in the business is difficult, so in this article I’ll attempt to address this and offer some tips I’ve picked up along my career from lowly runner to corporate video producer working with Fortune 500 companies.
