We’re running two great opportunities for filmmakers at the moment that may be of interest to your students and wider network:

BFI Doc Next Media Lab. Apply by – 29th April. We’re looking for 10 filmmakers to become part of the BFI’s Doc Next Media Lab. As part of the Lab you’ll receive a £750 bursary, technical film training from professionals, tutoring on different documentary styles, methods and ideas, and the chance to develop and hone your art into something special. Student Ents:  Apply by ­ 24th April. Our new termly brief, designed to give students the financial and marketing support to run a successful creative event for their peers. The event could be anything ­ an exhibition, screening, social or talk ­ we don’t mind as long as it has a creative focus. What’s more, we’re giving away five £200 pots of cash to enable our members to host events at universities nationwide. Further information / application

LSM graduates and Youtube stars Chris Bingham (SLOMOZOVO) and Tom Ridgewell (TOMSKA) have been included in Britain’s 20 most popular online video bloggers, both on the Guardian website and in the Observer on Sunday.

LSM hosts the inaugural BAFTSS conference

From Sarah Barrow: The inaugural conference of the British Association of Film, TV and Screen Studies takes place here next week, Fri 19th to Sun 21st April. Professor Mary Stuart will open proceedings at 2pm on the Friday followed by an introduction from BAFTSS chair Prof Brian Winston. Guest of honour (receiving a lifetime achievement award) is confirmed as acclaimed feminist film theorist Laura Mulvey! Her keynote is on the Friday at 4.30pm, followed by a screening of “Riddles of the Sphynx”, followed by a reception to launch the Journal of Popular Television. Red Dog to make Lancaster Bomber film

East Lindsey District Council have commissioned Red Dog Film to make a period drama set in Lincolnshire during World War II about the iconic Lancaster bomber. Just Jane is a bomber whose restoration has been a passion for Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage centre and will no doubt feature in the film.

LSM graduate Phil Stevens is directing, and LSM Senior Lecturer Chris Hainstock has set up a dedicated Facebook page where you can follow the progress of the production.

Lincoln Inspired, May 7 – 11

From the festival organisers: “Lincoln Inspired was ‘born’ in March 2012 when a group of like-minded souls who had worked on arts events in and around the city got together in a pub on the Brayford and shared their visions for a great new festival. LSM New Media Social Enterprise

The Lincoln School of Media is setting up a New Media Social Enterprise to enable LSM students to work collaboratively with local businesses, organisations, charities, schools and community groups to provide them with media support and you with networking opportunities, creative commissions and the chance to develop your business skills. This Social Enterprise is being co-ordinated by LSM graduate of MA Digital Imaging and Photography Hazel Donnelly. Hazel will oversee logistical, financial, H&S, ethical and IP issues. THE GEMINI PROJECT is the first project for our Social Enterprise and we need two fantastic students to get on board really soon. Fashion Design Competition

Fashion label THTC is launching a competition to design a T-shirt graphic for electronic duo Addictive TV Trailblazers in the art of audio/video sampling and remixing, Addictive TV are known for their movie remixes and video mash-ups blending electro with rock and everything else in between! Competition details

Twice voted #1 VJs in the world in DJ Mag, alongside the Top 100 DJs, the band are looking for a design that’s contemporary and graphic, either abstract or figurative, that represents their freestyle approach.
