Christian Moles is our 2010 animation graduate and runs his own company called The Inside Mole. It has been working on a new film and Christian is the director of the Invicta movie. The war drama was inspired by Christian’s grandfather who served in the British Expeditionary Force. The feature, which started over three years’ ago with historical research, was made with a team of undergraduates from the University of Lincoln. You can read Christian’s making of this film at the Lincolnite. The online release date will be the 29th May 2015 – timely for the 75th anniversary of Dunkirk. co_LAB @ Web We Want Festival | Southbank Centre 29–31 May
From Deputy Head of LSFM Richard Vickers: Students and academics from the University of Lincoln will be taking part in the Web We Want Festival at the Southbank Centre, 29–31 May, as part of the School of Film & Media co_LAB research group. The Web We Want festival is investigating the past 25 years of the Web and its possible future. The festival is inspired by the work of Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web and produced in partnership with Sir Tim’s World Wide Web Foundation.
The co_LAB team is running an intensive interdisciplinary workshop (21-28 May) in Lincoln, designed to bring together students from across all the three colleges within the University. The call for participants was aimed at Level 2 students and resulted in students from the School of Film and Media (College of Arts), School of Computer Science (College of Science) and School of Psychology (College of Social Science) collaborating together on a core brief. Congrats! Grads at Epix Media | Lincolnshire Digital Awards 2015
Our 2007 graduates Will King and Zoe Easey run Epix Media. The creative media company won at the first Lincolnshire Digital Awards 2015 for teaming up with client Homelet. Will at last night’s award ceremony: Stunned to have won Best Use of Multimedia at Lincs Digital Awards 2015. Amazing joint effort between Homelet and our team. So proud to have been part of an “award winning” partnership. Homelet said it was “delighted to have partnered with Epix Media on an amazing campaign recently – thrilled it’s been recognised with an award!”
Jason Bradbury, The Gadget Show presenter on Channel 5, is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Lincoln and he attended the awards. Zoe captured his entrance and shared it on Vine.

Robin Sheppard, TV Drama Director | Film & TV Talk
Interested in TV drama, directing, scriptwriting or authorship? Then don’t miss a talk and Q&A session with television director Robin Sheppard. The session will be based on her own experiences of working with writers in British TV Dramas from Jack Rosenthal (Lucky Jim, 2003) to Sally Wainwright (At Home With The Braithwaites, 2003). She said:
I will talk about the director’s relationship with the writer – the creative dialogue at the heart of British TV. Showing clips from my work to illustrate how this dialogue is realised on screen.

Holocaust Survivor Story | 25 Feb Talk at University of Lincoln
27th January is Holocaust Memorial Day. Our 3rd year Film and TV student Kate Marrison is a regional ambassador at the Holocaust Educational Trust. She has arranged for a survivor to talk about his experiences. Kate posted: This year is of even greater significance as it marks 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz Birkenau (said to be ‘the largest Nazi death camp’). The Holocaust may be at risk of moving from living history into just history and so it is up to future generations, now more than ever, to keep the legacy and the memory of the survivors alive – not just on this Memorial Day but throughout the entire year. I first got involved with the Trust in 2012 when I took part in the lessons from Auschwitz project. From then on I applied to be a regional ambassador for the East Midlands, which is effectively a three year course in which I would volunteer to write blogs, organise events, attend conferences, workshops and do what I could to promote Holocaust education.
For my first event I have invited survivor Harry Bibring to come and share his testimony. All are welcome on the 25th of February in the Cargill Lecture Theatre at 2.30pm. This free talk will last around 90-minutes, including time for questions. Seats will be limited, so please arrive early to ensure your place. I feel it is both a privilege and a necessity that students and the public can hear Harry’s survivor story, at the university, and carry it with them into the future. Continue reading

On a wintry Wednesday there were plenty of warm-hearted wishes from Lincoln School of Film & Media, family and friends to today’s graduates. Congratulations from us all at the University of Lincoln to our latest alumni! Be proud.
Graduation Day marked the start of the University of Lincoln’s Year of Liberty. Vice Chancellor Professor Mary Stuart said: This year is an important landmark for the University, the Cathedral, the county and the city of Lincoln, as we mark the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta – the cornerstone of our democracy. In commemoration, the University is making 2015 its Year of Liberty, and I can’t think of a better way to begin than celebrating the success of our graduates.

Creative Industries now worth £8.8 million an hour to UK economy
News from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport: New figures published today reveal that the UK’s Creative Industries, which includes the film, television and music industries, are now worth £76.9 billion per year to the UK economy.
Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture and Digital Industries, said it’s ‘very good news’ and the ‘Creative Industries are now worth £8.8 million an hour to the UK economy.‘ Apparently that’s ‘£146,000 every single minute.‘ Here is the DCMS video.
Darren Scales, Class of 2008 | The Drift by Backyard Productions
Congrats to indie filmmaker, 2008 grad and LSFM part-time lecturer, Darren Scales at Backyard Productions. After three years in the making … with a budget of £5,000 … the support of hundreds of volunteers … the premier of The Drift (2014) science-fiction feature film was on Saturday at the University of Lincoln. Reviews are coming in from Midlands Movies to ITV News.
