Congrats Daz. University of Lincoln School of Film & Media lecturer and filmmaker Darren Scales, who is also our Industry Mentor, has posted about his award winning sci-fi short: “I’m proud to announce that DARKWAVE: Edge of the Storm is the opening film at the TFL festival in CANNES!” TFL is That Film Life | Cannes 71st Festival 9th to 18th May 2018

Meet-the-Graduates-logoLincoln School of Film & Media‘s great graduate gathering was a fabulous opportunity to connect our current and former students on-campus. Our Meet the Graduates 2015 video captured the main talking points and was made by New Media Lincs. Thanks to LSFM’s crew: 3rd year media production undergraduates Richard Flint (camera & post-production), Adam Hollis (post-production), Chloe Ambrose (camera) and Luke Joyce (sound).

Head of LSFM Sarah Barrow gave a warm welcome on 11.11.15 in the EMMTEC theatre. Thank you to former & current students who came to the Graduate Question Time. The Drift (2014) | Wins Excellence Award at IndieFEST Film in LA

TheIndieFEST-Film_Awards-logocroppedCongrats to our 2008 graduate, an independent filmmaker and LSFM part-time lecturer Darren Scales for winning an Excellence Award at The IndieFEST Film Awards, in Los Angeles, for The Drift (2014).  Darren aBackyard Productions UK directed and produced the science-fiction feature film, which was made over three years on a low budget of £5,000 and with a high number of willing volunteers (100!).  He said: 

Darren-Scales_2008-GradI am so pleased that The Drift has won this award, more so because of the fantastic contribution made by the crew, many of them from the University of Lincoln – at this School. It just goes to show that hard work and motivation pays off, now with an LA award, even when you have a tiny budget! The charitable indie is currently looking for distribution: mail@bypuk.com

Darren-Scales_2008GradCongrats to indie filmmaker, 2008 grad and LSFM part-time lecturer, Darren Scales at Backyard Productions. After three years in the making … with a budget of £5,000 … the support of hundreds of volunteers … the premier of The Drift (2014) science-fiction feature film was on Saturday at the University of Lincoln. Reviews are coming in from Midlands Movies to ITV News.

Industry alumni on-campus | Mondays 10 Nov-1 Dec 5-6pm | EMMTEC

Our alumni networking with students at Meet the Graduates is a main event at the Lincoln School of Film & Media. But LSFM have alumni coming on-campus all year to share their experiences with students. Senior Lecturer Dave McCaig  has organised graduates from industry on Mondays: 10, 17, 24 Nov and 1st Dec. He said: these alumni demonstrate the strength of the multi-disciplinary degrees at LSFM. With a strong background in media practices during their degrees and a combination of hard work and ambition, these guest speakers have shown that the School’s highly valued in the media industries. We are very pleased that our graduates have returned to pass on their knowledge. Monday in EMMTEC 5-6pm:

Sean StrangeMon 10th November Sean Strange, Class of 2013:  As well as doing his own freelance work Sean is currently a staff photographer at F/stop Event Photography. His previous experience includes, events photographer for The Imperial War Museum and press photographer for RAF Waddington.

Alumni guest talks coming up:

  • Mon 17th November Aleysha Minns, Class of 2013:  AV freelancer with experience at Revolver Films, C4 and C5 amongst others. Also one of LSFM inspirational industry mentors. She said: what do you want to know about the world of TV? Send me some suggestions to include (on 17th)!
  • Mon 24th November Joel Murray, Class of 2011: Digital marketing co-ordinator at Lincoln BIG and Visit Lincoln.
  • Mon 1st  Dec Darren Scales, Class of 2008: Indie Filmmaker at Backyard Productions. His latest community project on a £5000 budget was The Drift film.  It was created with the help of volunteers and LSFM media students & graduates.
