Graduate Jack Howard’s video on the Syrian Refugee Crisis

LSM’s 2013 alumnus Jack Howard’s written and directed The Syria Challenge, which is his take about the refugee crisis in Jordan.

Jack’s video aim’s to raise public donations for Oxfam’s Syria Christmas Appeal – running until 27 February 2014.  He said you can donate £3 by “Text Jack to 70066” and all monies from his video will go to Oxfam’s Syria Appeal.  

Oxfam said your donation “will be matched pound for pound by the UK government. These donations will support families affected by the Syria crisis.”

 

NEW for 2014! Student Mentoring by Industry Professionals

Jordan-et-alLSM’s 2009 alumnus Jordan Livermore has kindly volunteered to be one of our industry mentors for our new mentoring initiative, which will pilot in the New Year. Student mentee places are limited (to 20) for our final and second year students, so sign up ASAP! More details are on the Blackboard announcement sent out from Sarah Barrow with the registration form. Sign up via email to the School’s administrator Louise Lawlor.

The talk provided a brief snapshot of Tom’s illustrious career to date, highlighting some of the highs and lows on his journey to world domination.  Tom is officially ranked within the top 200 YouTubers in the world with over 2.4 million subscribers, whilst his videos have gained over a staggering 450,000,000 views. ‘FLAT’ is the latest short film (a comedy with a female-led cast), which Mike is the Producer and Director of Photography.

Well done! Epix Media wins ABB Digital Business of the Year Award

Congrats to LSM’s 2007 graduate Zoe Easey announced the winner of Angel on the Wire Business Women Awards 2013 (Digital Business). Zoe’s the founder of Epix Media where she works as a web developer alongside co-director and LSM’s 2007 alumnus Will King. Zoe said her degree in Media Production “also qualifies her to produce 3D visuals and animations.” This is her story on Epix Media’s blog:

11.12.13 Open Day and LSM Graduate Tom Ridgewell ‘TomSka’

TomSkaLSM’s 2011 Graduate Tom Ridgewell has been on campus for today’s Open Day and this evening, in EMMTEC, he’ll be doing a free public talk ‘In Conversation with …”

TomSka has a global following on his YouTube channel with his cartoons, irreverent sketches and short films.  Tom was selected by YouTube as a guest host for its ‘Geek Week’ series last August. He’s also been featured on the cover of Wired Magazine in February 2013 as part of a feature called ‘How YouTube Reinvented the Entertainment Business.’

Graduate Aleysha Minns on Internship at Warp Films & LSM on 9 Dec

aleysha picture_300wI just received the great news that Warp Films will be taking me on for an internship in February 2014! I never thought I would get an opportunity like this from a completely different job interview around 5 months ago.

I attended a Frequency Festival internship interview in July and when talking to my lovely interviewer Sam, who happens to be a Yorkshire girl like me, she gave me the contact details for Warp Films in Sheffield from when she did an internship. I sent an email straight away, but heard nothing until 2 weeks ago! I had a Skype interview rather quickly and was offered a place! I was just over the moon, I have always wanted to work in film and now is my chance with a company I admire. Continue reading

Quandary Productions Creative Internship Programme have selected two new interns to join its team – and they’ve both come from the Lincoln School of Media. Congratulations to Sarah Worcester a 2nd year student and Liam Gilroy a recent media production graduate.
