Paid Opportunity: Creative Internships at Quandary Productions

LSM 2009 graduate Michael Henry, founder of Quandary Productions said:

Michael_HenryWe’re offering two lucky individuals the opportunity to make some extra cash, gain experience with a local (Lincoln-based) production company, and work with brands as diverse as LEGO, LYNX, PRINGLES, and GILLETTE. Interns will also get to work with us on our next feature film ‘TIME AND PLACE‘ (shooting will be from January to March 2014).

Our Creative Internship Programme is flexible to allow students to work around studies, and graduates to work around other forms of employment. Pay is variable dependent on how much work each individual puts in, and the performance of the two chosen individuals, who will have the opportunity to work together on briefs or alone.  Here’s how it works:  Continue reading

LSM Alumni Update from Aleysha Minns, Class of 2013

Aleysha Minns_Graduation_cropped_2013Finishing university is such a daunting and scary prospect and it really is quite a shock to your life. I spent the lectures in my third year listening to the many wonderful graduates that came in to talk to us about life after university and I would always walk away thinking how did they do it and how would I be able to do that? I honestly did not think it was possible for me to do until I worked out the thing in common with everyone that came in; they all made their own luck and opportunities.

After the final hand in and a much needed rest, all I could see was the blank few months leading up to graduation in September and the countdown to moving back home to Hull. I started to feel a little lost so spent a lot of time updating my CV and applying for any job that I saw. It seemed like months of hard work, applications and the odd interview here and there had not paid off until late July.  Continue reading

LSM Graduate Paul Rook on jobs and award nominations for 48HFP

Read our 2010 graduate Paul Rook’s frank insight into job-hunting, freelancing and striving for a dream job. Paul and another LSM graduate, Joseph (Joey) Fallon, have been nominated for The 48 Hour Film Project “a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and your team have a blast making a movie. All writing, shooting, editing and scoring must be completed in just 48 hours.”  In the London 48HFP 2013 competition Paul and Joey are up for two awards for their entry “Disconnect”:

Paul RookIt wasn’t long after my previous post on the alumni blog that I went full steam trying to find a new job. My company had tied me down to a contract that required 3 months’ notice. This caused a bit of a dilemma. If I didn’t hand in my resignation immediately I would never be able to leave for another job as no where would wait 3 months, but if we did part ways then I could find myself unemployed down the line. Never let yourself get into this position, no company should ever put a low earner in this position. Continue reading

Michael Henry’s crowdfunding for his next film

From 2009 LSM graduate Michael Henry, indie filmmaker and founder of Quandary Productions:  Please spread the word about crowdfunding for our next feature. ‘TIME AND PLACE’? will be a low-budget epic in which one man has to come to terms with the consequences of his actions, knowing that some day all that surrounds him will cease to exist. Time collapses, things lose their meaning, and moral boundaries seem absurd. Here’s the trailer.

Sean Strange is a staff photographer at the Imperial War Museum

Sean StrangeI’ve just been offered the opportunity to start work as a staff photographer for the Imperial War Museum and in particular the Duxford branch. Therefore my job is to mainly cover the Aviation aspect, as well as visitors and attractions within the museum. I will be working under the eyes of Richard Bayford who is head of visual resources and the photographer Richard Ash who produces the main bulk of the material for the IWM. This is a great new start for me and one I’m particularly looking forward to and something I’m very interested in taking to new levels.

Well done Sean and keep us posted in your photographic passion. Here’s Sean’s photographic portfolio for you to peruse.

Matt North – Career Update

Blog post by 2012 Audio Production graduate Matt North.

Screen Shot 2013-09-10 at 15.01.35

Since my last update, things have changed dramatically for me in my career and I have been very busy. In June this year, I left Ideal Shopping Direct after just under a year of service working as both a Technical Operator and Audio Operator – mixing over 500 hours of live broadcast audio for the TV shopping channels Ideal World, Create & Craft and The Deal Channel.

I left the role because I managed to land an incredible job working as a sound recordist for a small family company in London called Videoheads and have since been involved in some very exciting projects.  Continue reading
