Darren Scales learns about scoring his film

Darren Scales has been working on his sci-fi epic “The Drift” since August 2011, and the movie is now in post production, scheduled for a Christmas 2013 release. He’s recently been working on the original musical score. As well as producing this low budget movie, Darren (who describes himself as the executive bully,) has regularly updated his production video diary “Driftcasts”. Here’s the latest episode, in which Darren meets with James the Score, composer for THE DRIFT, and asks him what it takes to write a score:

THE DRIFT is Backyard Productions’ latest venture. A completely original Sci Fi adventure set 100 years from now… Continue reading

Katie Martin: from intern to staff job!

2012 Graduation

A little update from me – after completing my 11 month Web and Multimedia Graduate Internship in the University of Lincoln’s Marketing department, I landed the job of Social Media Officer!  (Woo, I believe that calls for a celebratory cocktail…or two!)

As my internship came to an end I was faced with going back to the job market which, as any graduate will know, is a scary place to be. You find one awesome job and 200 people go for it. Competition is definitely fierce, particularly in media-related roles, so I began applying for anything and everything in my field. I had a few successful interviews, including one here at the University for the Social Media Officer role which I accepted in a heartbeat. I loved my time as an intern here and the role was exactly what I was looking for.

Dani needs your vote!

From Dani Moseley:

The pageant that I am taking part in on August 10th in Luton is edging nearer and I need as MANY votes as I can get. If you could click on the link and vote for me being the face of the pageant I’d really appreciate that and anyone else you can spread the message to would be greatly appreciated also.

Dani Moseley’s Update: Summer 2013

Our multi-talented 2007 graduate rounds up her latest events, both here & abroad.

Dani-Moseley_Mag-FrontCoverI got the shock of my life when a friend of mine in St Lucia sent a picture of me on the front cover of a St Lucian Magazine!  Basically the photographer was St Lucian, she’s well known and got interviewed for a mag over there. They asked to see/use some of her portfolio for the feature, so she let me know that they might use it for the interview.

So there I was thinking if they were going to use anything, it would be some small little insert in the article, but nooooo, not only did they use ‘my’ picture, they put it on the front cover, which I was WELL chuffed about! Gonna get a copy soon!   Continue reading

Alec Albury, Class of 2012

Alec AlburyWe all know finding work after University is or will be tough. I’m not someone that actually felt that panic at first, as I was very lucky.  You may hate to read this, but I owe it all to the Research and Development module. Through this I and two other friends decided to look into writing a case study on Envy Post Production.

We found something we all had in common in media interests and that was post production so we put our heads together and went for it. Envy were and still are a big company so it was hard at first, but after a few emails and couple of calls we had secured a date to take a tour and have an interview (all for our case study of course). A week later we received emails inviting us to come down to do a week’s work experience and during that week we all secured jobs as runners. That is what I did for the next year. Running is of course a bit of a pain. Long hours, degrading jobs and it’s just generally difficult to maintain a smile on your face. Continue reading

Dani Moseley in Award Winning Web Series

Many congrats to our 2007 graduate Dani Moseley who was listed in the ‘Outstanding Guest Actress Award’ at the LA Web Series Festival 2013 for playing Simone in Brothers With No Game – BWNG to its web viewers. The online comedy drama won multiple awards, from producing to editing. Dani told me the first season was very popular and her character has been very well received: “I get stopped in the street more for that than anything else and because it is online, it’s always something I can refer people to. They can watch it ‘instantly’ whereas TV has happened & gone.” Continue reading

Jimmy Gregory, Class of 2006

Jimmy Tearaway

Capture: Andrew West

Things have been rather manic since talking to some of the media students at the Meet the Graduates event earlier this year. For those that weren’t there, I graduated in 2006 and ended up hotfooting it to Leeds in search of a job in the creative industry. I had no industry links as part of my armory and I never had that impeccable sense of timing to be in the right place at the right time.

I applied for post after post, and received my fair share of rejection letters and ultimately resorted to drafting written responses to complaints for one of the UK’s largest car manufacturers in order to pay the rent. Nevertheless I kept applying and after 18 months, I thought that I had caught my break when a local studio decided to take me on. But oh how I was wrong. It didn’t exactly pan out the way it had in my head and within 3 months the dreams were shattered and I was unemployed once more. Continue reading

Sylvia Entwistle, class of 2012. Hello prospective graduates!

I hope you’re enjoying your course (and working hard – it’s not all about those Tower Bar meetings in the beer garden you know…)

I’ve been asked to write a little bit about my journey from Studenthood to the ‘real world’ thus far and I hope I can give you a little insight on what you might expect once the heavenly bubble of University life bursts and leaves a sticky residue of hope and fear on you. Continue reading
