150 cine film reels
Films spanning 150 years of Lincolnshire’s engineering history have been preserved for posterity. The Ruston Hornsby (Siemens) Archive contains nationally significant material revealing the central role played by Lincolnshire companies in England’s industrial heyday during the 19th and 20th centuries. Around 150 cine film reels, mainly 16mm and 35mm film, including footage showing the development of the caterpillar tracks used on the world’s first battlefield tanks during World War I, have been moved to the Media Archive for Central England (MACE) based at the University of Lincoln. As soon as I graduated in 2011 with a BA (Hons) in Media Production I applied for a Master in Historical Studies at the University of Lincoln. I have always been passionate about History and it is my dream job to produce Historical documentaries. By doing this course I have been able to develop my skills which will be important for creating documentaries and other historical products. Since graduating I have gained experience working with the BBC on their BBC 2 show Flog It! This has provided me with valuable experience and has presented possible networking opportunities for when I finish my Masters course.
Job at Red Bee Media

I have enjoyed reading the alumni blog (I am not an LSM graduate but I did take some LSM modules as part of my course at the School of Computing). A runner position has just arisen at my company, Red Bee Media, that would probably suit recent School of Media graduates. It’s a runner’s job in the post production department that provides all manner of services for Channel 4. It should be a good ‘foot in the door’ here at Red Bee Media. We are industry leaders in a number of broadcast, video on demand and creative services. Its also a good opportunity to gain experience at Channel 4. Darren Scales: To pay or not to pay?

I graduated in Media Production and almost immediately walked into an internship with a leading London-based production company. I must have made an impression because that resulted in being commissioned to do freelance backstage footage editing for The X-Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and The Apprentice. Much of this video production work was delivered in London. Since then I’ve put my knowledge and experience into providing a value for money videography service to businesses and private individuals alike – with my work now ranging from weddings through to single camera corporate videos.Nick Frend, class of 2008
An opportunity came up a couple years ago to work in Shine Network, the consultancy department of Shine Television, now one of biggest production companies in the world. The department’s role was to support other production companies / broadcasters in different territories around the world making Shine formats. I learnt in depth about world media, how commissioning worked, pitching, programme making, editing, filming. From Australia to Romania, part of my job was to visit sets around the world with the teams making a number of different show like: MasterChef, On Born Every Minute, Biggest Loser and Minute to Win it.

It feels like a lifetime since I graduated from the University of Lincoln, and in actual fact it has only been 6 months. The good side, is that I have been in employment in my chosen media sector for 8 months, and I have the university to thank for shaping my knowledge of the industry and driving me to achieve my goals.
I came out of university with a 1st Class Honours degree, an academic prize and as Student Speaker for my class. This was a huge honour, and it really felt like all my hard work had paid off. However, I never found out my final grade until after I became employed. This proved that to me that the weight of a degree will get you so far on paper, but the skills and the experience, and how much you get out of the things that are on offer to you at university, get you the job and drive you to keep going, to reach out and seek what you want. And it is that drive that allowed me to gain my 1st and to walk into my first television interview with the confidence to talk about who I wanted to become and how I was determined to get here.
