Lincoln is hosting its first, FREE, Festival of Creativity (FOC), organised by the University of Lincoln’s College of Arts. The four-week fest (12th May-9th June) is to showcase and celebrate the emerging creative talent in the city – bringing together a wide range of disciplines through a series of exhibitions, talks and performances for everyone to ‘engage, explore, imagine’. The festival hosts a number of signature events, with advice from leading creative industry experts exploring the wider debate about the importance of the arts in contemporary society.
Final year students from across the College of Arts will celebrate the culmination of three years of study, sharing their work in respective Degree Shows in venues across the city, from art exhibitions and fashion shows to interactive displays and theatrical performances. LSFM Interim Head Richard Vickers said: We believe graduates should be skilled in communication, be instinctively collaborative, entrepreneurial and inherently interdisciplinary in their approach… Our students learn through projects that have social and cultural capital, exploring creative approaches to challenges and applying design thinking as a process for developing solutions. CONGRATS to all involved in winning at the NHS NSU Awards 2017 for the KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) at Rampton Hospital. The KTP project was to develop an interactive radio drama model that would help create innovative research with ‘Dialectical Behaviour Therapy’. Dr Sarah Barrow, Deputy Head College of Arts at the University of Lincoln: Rose Braisby is a 2013 Graduate of Lincoln School of Film & Media (Media Production, specialised in radio) – she was appointed as the KTP Associate working within Rampton Hospital with patients and staff in some very challenging – and rewarding – situations. LSFM’s Dylan Roys was the Academic lead for the project, supporting Rose every step of the way. Thank you to everyone who supported this project.”
Dylan said: Our KTP project at Rampton Hospital won the National Health and Wellbeing Initiative at the NHS National Service User Awards 2017 – it is really big deal in the NHS and the first time Rampton has won something as big as this.” Rose tweeted: After a lot of hard work from all involved, so proud to have led this project! Well done all in making this a success! #NSUA2017 Rose is working part-time as an Associate Lecturer in the College of Arts.
Hello! I’m Rosie and I graduated in 2015 with a BA (Hons) in Media Production. I work for BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC as a Content Producer for CBeebies. My role involves managing the social media for pre school shows Hey Duggee, Go Jetters and Sarah & Duck. As an online producer my role could be anything from coming up with new ideas for videos to promote magazines and toys to collaborating with the Children’s department in Manchester, attending brand partner meetings and even researching Christmas cakes designs!
I’m really excited to have joined the BBC after working for 18 months at a social media agency in East London on projects for Red Bull, MTV and CBBC. This role has allowed me to use the skills I’ve already gained in Children’s television to create exciting and inspirational content for families, parents/guardians and teachers! In my last year of university I wrote my dissertation on ‘Bringing The Children Out To Play’ a study on the relationship between Children’s online/broadcast media and the outdoors. I love spending time in nature and in my spare time I’ve been working on my own project called ‘The Urban Backpacker.’ Continue reading

Love our graduates back on-campus to share experiences and connect with our students from our annual network event Meet the Graduates (2nd November 2016) to teaching modules. TODAY half a dozen alumni will join our final year students in the Creative Enterprise session and module co-ordinator Zara Healy said: we welcome 6 of our graduates who are all working in multimedia roles. They have all graduated within the last 5 years from LSFM – some are freelance, some are employed full-time and at least 3 have set up their own creative industry companies. The one and a half hour session will be a Question and Answer about how this module’s assessment – pitch and paperwork – has helped graduates in their own pitches, how to develop ideas and present them to help them in their roles in the Media industry.

When I graduated in 2013 I have to admit at first, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do with myself career wise. The three years I’d spent at LSFM were so intense when it came to both student work and throwing myself into external projects, like co-founding the student radio station Brayford Radio, that it was weird for everything to suddenly just stop. I’d also faced a very clear dividing line in my interests during third year, choosing to focus on radio (my passion) but at the same time marrying it with digital media (where I thought my skills were best placed career wise). In the end the first thing I decided to do was take a break from everything and visit friends in Latvia that I’d made during a trip to Finland for the MC2020 project in my final year, and on my return I applied for an internship at the University.
Applying for the internship seemed to make perfect sense for me at the time because the one stipulation I had set myself when I graduated was to stay in Lincoln. Continue reading
University of Lincoln School of Film and Media final year students will showcase their creative work at the Lincoln Theatre Royal THIS weekend, and YOU are invited. It is the first time the historic city venue has staged a two-day multimedia exhibition by third year undergraduates and it is the first time the annual event is off-campus. The LSFM Degree Show is an opportunity for the public to see original, experimental and creative content in the Grade II listed theatre: from pop-up spaces like the Writers’ Room and take part in script reading to dressing rooms transformed into individual cinema booths. Screenings will be in the 450-seat Victorian auditorium, also above and below the stage will be design and digital exhibitions. Even the bar will turn into a gallery and backstage a sound and radio installation space. The LSFM Degree Show is FREE and open to the public on Saturday 11am-7pm & Sunday 11am-4pm. Wheelchair access is limited to the ground floor and some content may not be suitable for children. Here’s the programme and this is the LSFM Degree Show trailer. Lincoln School of Film & Media’s Audio Production Year 2 undergraduate Clem Cousins shared her post about a radio visit with her fellow students last month:
I went on a trip to look around Absolute Radio, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra. As soon as we made our way off the coach, we walked over to Absolute Radio. We were greeted in reception and were shown upstairs to a room for a talk with Chris, Eloise and Kevin. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about how they first started out in the industry and the different job roles they had before coming to Absolute Radio.
Afterwards, we were split into two groups and given a tour around the building. It was amazing seeing all of the studios. Continue reading
From the 8th June until 12th June I received a brilliant opportunity to work at an independent radio production company called Whistledown Productions. The indie produce weekly programmes for BBC Radio 4 including Feedback, BBC World Service’s Over to You as well as several documentaries on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4. Whistledown have won a variety of awards for their work including a Sony Award in 2003 and Indie of the Year at the Radio Production Awards 2014.
I undertook several jobs at the company which included learning how to use SADiE which is a piece of editing software that the BBC use and is a very important programme to learn if you want to create programmes for the BBC. Continue reading
