Happy Days! Snapshots of some of our alumni for this afternoon’s ‘Meet The Graduates’. It is LSM’s annual networking event between our grads and students. Thirty alumni from the creative industry and media-related areas are looking forward to seeing students in EMMTEC. Have your questions ready for the Q&A at 2pm. Then have an informal chat (over a cuppa!) from 4pm to share experiences.

Rachael White’s post-graduation choice: Travel or Career?
Congrats to our students who’ll be graduating this afternoon – LSM is proud of our alumni. After graduation you’ll have choices and our media grad shared hers:
Travel or career? Choose both! After graduating from the University of Lincoln in 2012 I was in two minds as to what to do next. Travel with friends or start my media career? I had somehow got an interview for a Disney Channel internship and decided if I got it I would stay, if I didn’t I would leave. So within a few minutes of the interview, I screwed it up. My mind already flew to Canada and the rest of me followed a few months later.
I spent 10 months there; snowboarding in the mountains, wake surfing on the lake and road-tripping through America. I also got a little job on the side working for a production company who filmed weddings and corporate videos. I wasn’t ready to let go of media totally so I took the opportunity, like Tesco says “every little helps.” As my visa ran out and I blew my money ticking things off my bucket list I decided it was time to come home. I’m not going to lie, I had some really down days after not even getting bar or waitress jobs. I ended up on the dole. However, after a couple of months constantly applying to pretty much everything everywhere I got an interview at a production company down south. Continue reading

Matt North – Career Update
Blog post by 2012 Audio Production graduate Matt North.
Since my last update, things have changed dramatically for me in my career and I have been very busy. In June this year, I left Ideal Shopping Direct after just under a year of service working as both a Technical Operator and Audio Operator – mixing over 500 hours of live broadcast audio for the TV shopping channels Ideal World, Create & Craft and The Deal Channel.
I left the role because I managed to land an incredible job working as a sound recordist for a small family company in London called Videoheads and have since been involved in some very exciting projects. Continue reading
Alec Albury, Class of 2012
We all know finding work after University is or will be tough. I’m not someone that actually felt that panic at first, as I was very lucky. You may hate to read this, but I owe it all to the Research and Development module. Through this I and two other friends decided to look into writing a case study on Envy Post Production.
We found something we all had in common in media interests and that was post production so we put our heads together and went for it. Envy were and still are a big company so it was hard at first, but after a few emails and couple of calls we had secured a date to take a tour and have an interview (all for our case study of course). A week later we received emails inviting us to come down to do a week’s work experience and during that week we all secured jobs as runners. That is what I did for the next year. Running is of course a bit of a pain. Long hours, degrading jobs and it’s just generally difficult to maintain a smile on your face. Continue reading
Sylvia Entwistle, class of 2012. Hello prospective graduates!
I hope you’re enjoying your course (and working hard – it’s not all about those Tower Bar meetings in the beer garden you know…)
I’ve been asked to write a little bit about my journey from Studenthood to the ‘real world’ thus far and I hope I can give you a little insight on what you might expect once the heavenly bubble of University life bursts and leaves a sticky residue of hope and fear on you. Continue reading
Michael Passingham Update
I have been offered a job at London-based technology/IT news website www.V3.co.uk. It’s an absolutely brilliant first job to get, and it’s a highly-regarded news source in the industry, so I’m absolutely thrilled about it. It’s a 9 month maternity contract, but it’s a great step onto the ladder. I’ll be covering IT skills/education, social media and UK tech startups. I’ll also be producing much of the website’s video content. Continue reading
Meet the LSM Graduates with their Top Tips
Meet the Graduates (MtG) is always a highlight at the Lincoln School of Media. Katie Martin, class of 2012, captured our alumni at this year’s networking event between graduates and students. Katie’s just finished an internship at the Uni and now she’s landed a staff job here as Social Media Officer – many congrats. This is her vox/pop on tips graduates would give to our third year students. It’s a timely piece as the next generation of our creatives leave the LSM, so listen up and good luck!
Final year students, we look forward to seeing your stories here so please keep us posted on what you’re up to! Of course you’ll be invited to our next Meet the Graduates, but for now the buzz of this year’s is still with us. Continue reading
MEET LSM’s GRADUATES
Meet the Graduates (MtG) is always a highlight at the Lincoln School of Media and this year’s networking event between graduates and students was no exception. As our third year students are on the verge of graduating (good luck), our alumni were asked what they missed most about being a student? Katie Martin, who graduated last year, captured frank and funny answers from alumni talking about their love of Lincoln and that student lifestyle …
Katie Martin, Class of 2012
Hi! I’m Katie, a Media Production graduate. I’m currently working as a Web and Multimedia Intern for the University’s Marketing department…which is definitely not the route I imagined my career taking! Throughout my degree I only ever wanted to go into film, but after finishing my course in May 2012 I was faced with unemployment (or staying in my part-time retail job) along with many other graduates.
I applied for various roles and internships across the country and found my current internship on the University’s job site. It wasn’t exactly the field I wanted to go into, but it did sound interesting and challenging. Continue reading
