Katy Atkinson, Class of 2006 | The Reporters’ Academy @ Rio 2016

Katy-Akinson_TRA_Rio2016-TeamOur 2006 graduate and inspirational media mentor Katy Atkinson is the co-founder of The Reporters’ Academy (TRA) – a not for profit media production company – based at MediaCityUK and she is at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games (5-21 August) to give young people from the UK the opportunity to produce a range of publicity content. Katy said: We’ve been tasked with the mission of officially working alongside a number of Olympic nations as their press and media partners. This is a huge honour as we have been working tirelessly since before the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics to champion young people and showcase their abilities on a global stage.

Throughout these Rio Olympics, a team of four from The Reporters’ Academy will be working with our Olympic colleagues from Oceania nations.  We will be working alongside the Oceania teams to provide press and media production support throughout the Games. We will be writing, filming, reporting and collating all their news to share on the teams’ media platforms and also assist our international media colleagues in telling their stories. LSFM Degree Show 2016 | Lincoln Theatre Royal on 14th & 15th May

LSFMdegreeshow2016_logo_400x400University of Lincoln School of Film and Media final year students will showcase their creative work at the Lincoln Theatre Royal THIS weekend, and YOU are invited. It is the first time the historic city venue has staged a two-day multimedia exhibition by third year undergraduates and it is the first time the annual event is off-campus. The LSFM Degree Show is an opportunity for the public to see original, experimental and creative content in the Grade II listed theatre: from pop-up spaces like the Writers’ Room and take part in script reading to dressing rooms transformed into individual cinema booths. Screenings will be in the 450-seat Victorian auditorium, also above and below the stage will be design and digital exhibitions. Even the bar will turn into a gallery and backstage a sound and radio installation space. The LSFM Degree Show is FREE and open to the public on Saturday 11am-7pm & Sunday 11am-4pm. Wheelchair access is limited to the ground floor and some content may not be suitable for children. PAID Internship, Blueprint: Film | 2014 or 2015 Grad Opportunity

Blueprint-Film_LogoThis is a fabulous paid internship if you’re a University of Lincoln 2014 or 2015 graduate to work on a range of creative projects with multi-award winning production company Blueprint: Film.  It is a full-time position based in its Lincoln studio with flexible working hours to start in April 2016. The intern will have a range of media and office skills: researching; live sports web streaming/ webcasting, including the basics of vision mixing and camera and audio set-up (further training will be provided); and a knowledge of Final Cut Pro X and/or Adobe Creative Cloud would be useful.  You MUST have a valid driver’s licence and a vehicle because one of the largest projects the intern will work on will be a series of community cinema events across Lincolnshire.  The job includes travelling to different locations and working alone, so it is important that you are confident working on your own.

Rachel Hagreen, Class of 2014 | Kickstarter How To Kitchen

Rachelhagreen-HTK-episode1Things got a bit manic for me in July. After sadly being made redundant from Videojug Networks, I was forced to look for a new job.  I was extremely lucky to secure myself a role as shooting researcher at Diagonal View almost straight away and it was the How To Kitchen channel that landed me the role.  The channel showcased knowledge of production that led to them creating a role that involves shooting, editing and scriptwriting on a daily basis, allowing me to have a perfect balance of desk-work and practical camera work.

Due to all the stress that comes with searching for and starting a new job, the How To Kitchen channel had to be put to rest for a while and each time we considered bringing it back, we were filled with fear and flashbacks of the last shoots where we were too poor and too busy to leave the house… Alexander Whitcombe and myself seriously considered scrapping the whole channel on a number of occasions but ultimately we decided it had too much potential to throw away just yet. So we made the difficult decision to launch a Kickstarter campaign: How To Kitchen is an online cooking channel that creates original recipes inspired by TV and film. Pledge your support?

Jack Johnston, Class of 2009 | BBC Production Award

Congrats to our alumni who work on BBC TV’s Springwatch on winning an in-house award for the most sustainable production team. 2009 Media Production Graduate Jack Johnston’s role was Lead Edit Assist (now Editor on BBC World Wide versions of the show). He said: 12088195_649740769988_6136445753219117447_n Springwatch is a three week Live Natural History TV event with 12 BBC Two shows as well as a multitude of online and red button shows broadcasting 24 hours a day. With huge numbers of live cameras set up across a nature reserve, a production team of over 100 people and miles of cables, it’s an exciting production to be a part of.

Jack SpringwatchI graduated from Lincoln back in 2009 and have now been working on the “Watches” in post production for a year. Laurence Whitaker joined the team early in 2015 as part of the research team. After talking in the office one day we found out that we had in fact both graduated from Lincoln, Laurence in 2011. The series this year went very well, drawing in fantastic viewing figures and giving birth to a new national hero, Spineless Si, a tiny stickleback fish who just wanted to be a good father!   Continue reading →

Headspace 2015 Industry Event | Lincoln School of Film & Media

Today’s HEADSPACE was LSFM’s on-campus industry event organised by Senior Lecturer Zara Healy. Our Visiting Professor Trevor Dann opened the day. He introduced industry guests, who were primarily our alumni and BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Managing Editor Charlie Partridge. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain an insight into the range of employment after graduation. Work can be in many forms as our graduates shared why they started their own media businesses; how to leap from local radio into local telly as well as network TV; and doing forms of digital media to pursue their passions.  Here are some moments captured at Headspace 2015 – networking and socialising.
