BFI Doc Next Media Lab. Apply by – 29th April. We’re looking for 10 filmmakers to become part of the BFI’s Doc Next Media Lab. As part of the Lab you’ll receive a £750 bursary, technical film training from professionals, tutoring on different documentary styles, methods and ideas, and the chance to develop and hone your art into something special. Student Ents:  Apply by ­ 24th April. Our new termly brief, designed to give students the financial and marketing support to run a successful creative event for their peers. The event could be anything ­ an exhibition, screening, social or talk ­ we don’t mind as long as it has a creative focus. LSM hosts the inaugural BAFTSS conference

From Sarah Barrow: The inaugural conference of the British Association of Film, TV and Screen Studies takes place here next week, Fri 19th to Sun 21st April. Professor Mary Stuart will open proceedings at 2pm on the Friday followed by an introduction from BAFTSS chair Prof Brian Winston. Guest of honour (receiving a lifetime achievement award) is confirmed as acclaimed feminist film theorist Laura Mulvey! Her keynote is on the Friday at 4.30pm, followed by a screening of “Riddles of the Sphynx”, followed by a reception to launch the Journal of Popular Television. Red Dog to make Lancaster Bomber film

East Lindsey District Council have commissioned Red Dog Film to make a period drama set in Lincolnshire during World War II about the iconic Lancaster bomber. Just Jane is a bomber whose restoration has been a passion for Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage centre and will no doubt feature in the film.

LSM graduate Phil Stevens is directing, and LSM Senior Lecturer Chris Hainstock has set up a dedicated Facebook page where you can follow the progress of the production.
