Meet the Graduates 2015 | Video: Question Time

Meet-the-Graduates-logoLincoln School of Film & Media‘s great graduate gathering was a fabulous opportunity to connect our current and former students on-campus. Our Meet the Graduates 2015 video captured the main talking points and was made by New Media Lincs. Thanks to LSFM’s crew: 3rd year media production undergraduates Richard Flint (camera & post-production), Adam Hollis (post-production), Chloe Ambrose (camera) and Luke Joyce (sound).

Chloe Ambrose, Student | Creative Skillset Course at MediaCity

Chloe-Ambrose_LSFM_studentA LSFM Facebook notification alerted my attention: ‘FREE spaces available on a Creative Skillset Children’s Production Co-ordinator Course in MediaCity’. I clicked. Expanding the information, it dawned on me that the requirements I needed were not things held on my CV: ‘at least one year’s experience as a production assistant, production secretary, runner, and assistant location manager’. Despite this, I emailed the course and was reassured by a lovely lady that the course was very flexible in accepting those with equivalent university experience, and put me down for a place. But then came another dilemma. I was filming a wedding on the 22nd and therefore could not attend the assessment day. This was a big concern as for the course to be ‘free’ I had to participate in all three days or I would have to pay £350. My free place was looking impossible. So, I called explaining my circumstances. Once again, I was welcomed with a surprising flexibility and understanding of my situation. Here, I was allowed to partake in the 2 days’ training and be assessed via email or phone. Result! But wait… how would I get there? Continue reading

Emma Bridgewood, Student | Film Experience, The Nativity Factor

Emma-Bridgewood-workexp-NATIVITY-FACTOR-Logo_ITN-ProductionsThe weekend of the 28th November I was lucky enough to be one of 4 people from across the UK to win work experience with ITN Productions, making a Christmas Short Film for The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts.  Everyone’s competition entry for The Nativity Factor was very boring and consisted of them blabbing on about how they did Media Production, and needed work experience. I took this in to consideration – after all, Media is all about standing out from the crowd – so turned myself into an elf, and made my entry. Thanks to my charm and comedic twist on the brief I won!

The work experience was all paid for, and I was whisked away to London staying in a hotel for 2 nights in Edgware. On Saturday morning I met with the Producers from ITN Productions as well as David Schneider, our Director for the day. Continue reading

Meet the Graduates 2015 | Slideshow

Meet-the-Graduates-logoMany thanks to our alumni and students for creating a great vibe at Meet the Graduates 2015. Lincoln School of Film & Media‘s graduate gathering was a fabulous opportunity to connect our current and former students on-campus to share experiences about the world of work. Our networking event, during the first College of Arts Creative Careers Festival, was a superb collaboration between the School and the University’s Alumni Team.  There’ll be capture from MtG 2015 to share on the blog and we’re starting with some snapshots of the Graduate Question Time and Networking.  #MtGLincoln

Rosie Turner, Class of 2015 | Work-life since leaving Lincoln

RosieTurner_2015GradSince leaving Lincoln and heading down to London, these past few months have been unbelievably busy! At the moment I have just taken on a contract as an Assistant Producer with Social Life, a social media agency based in London, founded by Ex Radio 1 social leads. Our clients include MTV UK, X Factor, First Dates, CBBC and Red Bull Media to name a few. My role involves a bit of everything as we are a start-up business! My average week will consist of meetings with clients, developing social media strategies, video editing, photography, planning the filming of gigs with our music clients, organising schedules for the press launches of TV shows and booking locations for events!

I progressed to the role after finishing my trainee scheme at Channel 4 as a freelance Social Networker alongside my degree. Continue reading

Mark Hills, Class of 2010 | Sound Designer Soho Square Studios

At only 26 years old, I feel incredibly fortunate to be in the position I am right now. Most people my age in this industry are still working as runners, making teas and fetching lunches. Some may be working in transfer or as an assistant, dealing with files, deliverables and setting up sessions. I decided to send in my alumni story to offer my own insight as someone who has now been in the audio post industry for nearly 5 years. This is a recent piece of sound design I finished for Pierre Michel, creative director at Digital Domain in LA.

Like most sound designers, my love of sound came from a musical background. Continue reading

Emily McSorley, 2015 Graduand | Intern now a Job, North One TV

EmilyMcSorely_2015GradI was fortunate enough to receive a four week work placement with North One Television on June the 1st. After just finishing my final year jumping into this four week internship was amazing! From my first year I always knew I wanted to work in television so I worked incredibly hard to receive work experience including one week as an Office Runner at Objective Productions, freelance work as a Junior Researcher and working on a Lincolnshire feature film as a Production Assistant. It was these snippets of work experience and an obvious determination to work in factual entertainment that I believe secured me this position and I would urge all students to take on whatever experience you can as it will benefit you massively when applying for entry level positions. Gemma Lowe, Class of 2012 | Career Update

The last few years have been quite busy for me, I was self-employed for quite some time after completing my Enterprise Inc training and worked for the Young Journalist Academy, providing training and workshops about broadcast media to schools across Lincolnshire. I really enjoyed this but the nature of being self-employed means that opportunities come and go. I continued to complete voice-overs for a while too and enjoyed the freedom of running my own business.

After some time being self-employed I realised that I wanted to try something new and with my experience of working with young people (with the Young Journalist Academy and as part of my Media Production Degree), I decided that I would like to find a job in education. Continue reading
